چکیده
Haematology is a rapidly growing field of medicine. The advent of new molecular biology methods has enhanced our knowledge of blood disorders, but further complicated the study of this important branch of medicine. Although, modern day students tend to have better information technology skills than their predecessors and seem to be very interested in molecular biology methods, the comprehension of some key points in Haematology remains problematic. In our experience, students often experience difficulty understanding how the generation of blood occurs. We present the "Blood Apple Tree", a simple metaphor between the bone marrow and an apple tree, which has proven to be a helpful teaching tool for medical students approaching the basics of Haematology. We all know that blood production occurs within the bone marrow, however just for the moment use your fantasy and imagine that the bone marrow is like an orchard of apple trees. Each apple tree has just three branches. Let's imagine these branches are red, yellow and white (Figure 1). The red branch produces red apples (erythrocytes), the yellow branch produces yellow

Background In recent years, many researchers haveattempted to cure diabetes by using stem cells technology. Stem cells from different sources have capabilityto differentiateinto insulin producing cells (IPCs) by different methods. The obstaclesof these methods aretheirexpensive materials and complexity ofmethodswhichare practicallydisadvantagesfor producing enough transplantableIPCs that can ...

During the last two decades conventional therapy has improved the prognosis of thalassemia. However, despite such improvement it still remains a progressive disease with treatment-related complications such as hepatitis, liver fibrosis, and cardiac disease. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) can prevent or delay progression of the aforementioned complications. The importance of clinical research...

متن کاملReview of Effect of Storage Time before Freezing on Stem Cells Surveillance, Collected from Cord Blood, Peripheral Blood and Bone Marrow
Introduction: The use of cord stem cells, as a cell source for bone marrow reconstruction in patient under hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is enhancing. The amount of CD34+cells collected from cord blood compared to peripheral blood and bone marrow are less, but their collectionprocesure is easier. Delay in freezing has negative effect on cells surveillance and reduce their ability in ...
متن کامل"Recovery" of In-111 Chloride uptake in spleen and bone marrow, after chemotherapy for acute leukemia
A man with acute myelogenous leukemia, treated with chemotherapy, had a decrease in circulating formed blood elements. Bone marrow biopsy revealed necrosis. Imaging with In-Ill chloride demonstrated activity in the liver, but not in the spleen or bone marrow. Eighteen days later, the circulating blood count had risen; a repeat bone marrow biopsy showed the return of blood cell precursors....
